Bittersweet Review

Aww! That was so sweet, and not bitter in the slightest! I loved the story, focusing on Cole like that was really different and though there has been things like that before, 'Black as Cole', I thought 'Bittersweet' was better. Alternating the scenes from 1905 to present day was really good, it highlighted contrasts between Cole then and now, and similarities and differences between Phoebe and Kelly. Hmm, I'm not sure that people in 1905 were a) called Kelly and b) said things like 'hitting on me'. Lord Archer really bugged me, chauvinistic pig, but the conversation between him and Cole was perfect just the sort of chummy, superior way I would imagine them to speak. The extra touches to the stage directions were really amusing, I liked Piper's 'heavenly cereal'. I liked the fighting with the demons at the end, how each of them did a little vanquish, cool. Oh, and mentioning previous events like Bo and the amulet was really clever.

Piper and Leo were in the background but good, the underlying issues about Piper's pregnancy (craving weird food, names) were there but other stuff took precedence with them. Paige was great, sniping at Cole just enough and she had some fantastic come-backs, she really played to the youngest sister role and it worked. Phoebe is surprisingly quiet, but together and I liked the way she noticed Cole's reaction in the teaser but didn't stress or make a major deal out of it. The similarities between herself and Kelly made sense, although Kelly was a bit too submissive for our wild child. Phoebe's semi-jealously was subtle and only to be expected and I don't think she really got over it until the end when Cole kissed her, but her 'you can come to me with these problems' reminded me that she was an advice columnist. Cole was, well, perfect, there were differences between his younger self and now that were natural and he really can play the moody lover. (His speeding gave him back the dangerous edge.) Its got to be 10/10 because there's too many positive points to put in one review!
